Lyle Clancy

Lyle E. Clancy, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Davis County, died Friday, February 01, 2008, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Clancy's body has been cremated according to his wishes. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. Memorials have been established to the family or to the Church of the Nazarene. The Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Born December 31, 1932 in Ottumwa, IA, Lyle Eugene was the son of John I. and Iola M. Hawkins Clancy. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1950. During the Korean War, Mr.Clancy served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne, and obtained the rank of Sergeant. Upon his discharge from the service, he became a self employed carpenter. In 1970, he began his studies to become an ordained minister of the Church of the Nazarene. On September 21, 1957, Lyle married Verna M. Willier in Oskaloosa, IA. Rev. Clancy served churches in Lake City, Lacona, Oelwein and Mt. Pleasant, before retiring from the ministry. Lyle was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Pleasant. He also loved to play golf, enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife Verna of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sons, Brent (Nancy) Clancy and Brian (Kim) Clancy all of Bloomfield, IA, and Blaine (Sue) Clancy of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three daughters, Barbara (Artie) Showalter of Rosehill, IA, Bonnie (Randy) Ford and Bev (Drew) Schumacher all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; eleven grandchildren, four step grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and three step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Lee (Mary) Clancy and Les (Karen) Clancy all of St. James, MO; and two sisters, Ida Hand of Rolla, MO, and Iva Yates of Licking, MO; several nieces and nephews and their families. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ila in infancy.
