Lucille Wilma Sojka was born April 9, 1927 in Iowa Township near Riverside, Iowa the daughter of Ferdinand and Velma (Stransky) Simon. She graduated form St. Mary's High School in Riverside. On September 7, 1948 she was united in marriage to George Sojka in Riverside. They farmed in the Riverside community before retiring in 1982. She was a member of the St. Mary;'s Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar and Rosary, and the VFW Auxiliary. Lucille died on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a long illness at the age of 79 years. Lucille is survived by two sons - Jay and Linda Sojka; Mark and Sheri Sojka; three grandsons - Christopher and Shannon Sojka; Eric and Heidi Sojka; Corey Sojka; a granddaughter - Kayla Sojka; a great grandson Carson Sojka; a great granddaughter - Jadyn Sojka all of Lone Tree; a sister - Carol Lynch of Washington; and three brothers - Marvin Simon, Richard Simon and Robert Simon all of Riverside. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on December 26, 1982 and three brothers - Francis, Vincent and Paul. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Rev. Rich Adam will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
