Lucille Rachel Yoder was born December 7, 1920 in rural Milford, Nebraska, the daughter of Edward Joseph and Fannie (Roth) Beckler. She attended Pleasantview District #47 rural school. She was baptized at the East Fairview Mennonite Church in Mildford. In 1940 she moved to Iowa. On February 14, 1943 she was united in marriage to Joseph Max Yoder in Milford. They made their home in the Wellman and Kalona communities where Lucille was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and bird watching. Lucille died on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 89 years. Lucille is survived by four children Gaylord Yoder (Shirley) of Kalona; Wanda Yoder (Kenneth) of Kalona; Weldon Yoder (Patty) of Billings, Montana; Waneta Neuzil (Steve) of Kalona; seven grandchildren Chris Yoder, Jeremy Yoder, Devin Yoder, Nicholas Stoddard, Nathan Stoddard, Erika Rodriguez, Nikita Yoder; two great grandchildren Max and Macy; three brothers Clayton Beckler (Berniece) of Milford, NE; Maurice Beckler (Irene) of South Hutchinson, KS; Norman Beckler (Daine) of Philadelphia, TN; and four sisters Ethel Beckler of Glendale, AZ; Grace Stauffer (Morris) of Beaver Crossing, NE; Inez Stauffer (Thurlowe) of Phoenix, AZ; and Faye Beckler of Glendale, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Max, two sons Lyle and Gordon, and a sister Margaret Kauffman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Don Patterson and Pastor Dick Swartzendruber will officiate. Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 18 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice and Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.
