Loyd D. Rose, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at his home. Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 29th, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 803 East Mapleleaf Drive, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Burial will be in the Green Mound Cemetery, rural Trenton, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Calvary Baptist Church or the Mt. Pleasant High School Athletic Department. Born on January 27, 1935, in rural Davis County, IA, Loyd Delano was the son of Frank and Cora Avis (Coop) Rose. He attended New London grade school, Mt. Pleasant Jr. High, and was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. On June 13, 1954, he married Shirley Sinn at Green Mound Church of God. Beginning in the late fifties, Loyd owned and operated Loyd's Conoco. In the mid-sixties, he went to work for the R.E.A., which later became the R.E.C. He retired after 36 years of service, most of which were spent as a lineman. A long time member of Green Mound Church, Loyd served as a Sunday school teacher, an elder and in many other capacities. He was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he served as an associate deacon. Loyd coached Little League baseball teams and girls' softball teams. He took several of the baseball teams to district tournaments. He was a member of the former Mt. Pleasant Booster Club. He was an excellent woodworker and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Loyd is survived by his wife, Shirley of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two sons, Michael (Barbara) Rose, and Mark (Theresa) Rose all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a daughter, Christy (Terry) Strohman of Des Moines, IA; a daughter-in-law, Kay Rose of Farmington, UT; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two grandchildren of the heart; a brother, Basil Rose, of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and a sister, Doris (Arel) Hulen of Ottumwa, IA. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Rose; a sister, Vonda Long; and brothers, Donald, Dean, and Robert Rose.
