Williamsburg-Lowell Dean Sandberg was born May 28, 1934 in Kandiyohi, Minnesota, the son of Laverne and Katherine Hallblade Sandberg. He graduated from American School in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the United States Navy from November of 1952 until May of 1955. Lowell was united in marriage to Edna Mattson on July 19, 1955 in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple lived in the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids areas before moving to Williamsburg in the early 70's. Lowell has worked for Coffman's and Lutheran Interparish School. He was a member of the Marengo American Legion and the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Lowell died Monday, December 26, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 71 years due to congestive heart failure. Lowell is survived by his wife Edna of 50 years; three children: Cindy (Norman) Slaymaker of Williamsburg, Brian (Kimberly) Sandberg of Oxford and Kathi ( Jeff) Panknen of Newton; six grandchildren: Sean Panknen, Shanna Panknen, Colin Sandberg, Jourdan Sandberg, Jenny Slaymaker and Tyler Slaymaker; two brothers: David Sandberg of Cedar Rapids and Dwight Sandberg of Hastings, Nebraska and a sister: Martha Newell of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dennis Sandberg. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Robin Kash will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Rites by Marengo American Legion. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. A general memorial has been established.
