Lovina M. Miller was born January 1, 1917 in Centerville, MI, the daughter of Menno J.S. and Fannie (Yoder) Bontrager. Lovina lived in Michigan until about age 6 when the family moved to Buchanan Co. Iowa. She has lived in Kalona since 1932. Lovina was united in marriage to Ruben M. Miller on June 6, 1940 in Kalona. She moved to the Pleasantview Home in July of 2010. She was a member of the Fairview Mennonite Church. She enjoyed being active in the Women's Sewing Circle, piecing quilts and gardening. She was a widow for 51 years and raised 6 children by herself, life was not always easy for her, but she was a Godly woman and left a Godly heritage for her children and the church. Lovina died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 94 years. She is survived by five children: Marilyn (Lyle) Hochstedler of Kalona, Rita (Dan) Schrock of Phoenix, AZ, Perry L. (Carolyn) Miller of Kalona, Mary Jane (Ben) Newcomer of Lake Wales, FL and Susan (Bill) Hochstedler of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada; 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; a brother: Joe Bontrager of Fresno, CA; two sisters: Edna Yoder and Esther Tate both of Iowa City, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ruben in 1960, a son: Marvin Miller in 2000; two grandchildren; three brothers: Clarence Bontrager, Amos Bontrager and Perry Bontrager and a sister: Suvilla Hershberger. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Fairview Mennonite Church near Kalona. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 2:00 to 8:00pm with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the church. Memorials are for Iowa City Hospice or Fairview Mennonite Church. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona are in charge of arrangements.
