Louise Faye Banes, age 89, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the Hospice Unit at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Powell Funeral Home in North English at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013. Pastor Michelle Williamson will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Louise Faye Banes was born on December 16, 1923, in Floyd County, Iowa, and was adopted by her parents Ellsworth and Elsie Taylor Van Fleet. She has lived in the North English community since the age of seven and graduated from North English High School in 1941. Louise taught rural school near Marengo and the White Pigeon community for 1-1/2 years. She was united in marriage to William Melvin Banes on December 13, 1942, in South English, Iowa. They farmed in the White Pigeon community before moving into North English in 1978. Louise was a wonderful cook, baked great pies, and cooked at the high school for several years. Louise loved to dance. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and served as a den mother for the Boy Scouts for many years. She is survived by her husband William of North English; a daughter Karen (Harley) Westfall of Riverside; three sons: Ronald (Barbara) Banes of North English; Jeffrey (Lori) Banes of Williamsburg; and Kevin (Shari) Banes of North English; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister Ethel Hildebrand of Bettendorf; sisters -in-law Marilyn Van Fleet of North English and Donna Criswell of Shenandoah. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Pearl Rogers, brothers Charles Van Fleet; Ed Criswell, and Bob Hickman.
