SIGOURNEY-Lottie Smeaton, age 98, of Sigourney, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, following a lengthy illness. Lottie was born December 8, 1905, in Keokuk County, to Chris and Mary (Hens) Brothersen and received her education at Johnson country school and Sigourney High School. In 1927 she married Ferdinand Smeaton in Delta. The couple lived and farmed in Keokuk County. Lottie was a member of the Keswick United Methodist Church and enjoyed fanciwork, embroidery and tatting. Survivors include one son: Paul Smeaton of Sigourney and two sisters: Betty Heisdorffer of Sigourney and Twyla Stroud and husband Raymond of Longmont, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Ferd in 1968 and one sister: Margaret Brothersen. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2004, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A general memorial fund has been established. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
