Lorraine Blanche Jones was born April 27, 1921 near Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of Earl Theodore and Maud Blanche (McCroskey) Hillyer. She grew up on a farm in the Tipton community. In 1955 she lived in Lone Tree and in the early 80's Lorraine moved to Wellman. Lorraine was united in marriage to Francis McSwiggin on June 26, 1949 in Canton, Missouri. He later died. Lorraine later was united in marriage to Ray M. Jones on March 1, 1969 in Aledo, Illinois. She worked at the University of Iowa in housekeeping for 18 years retiring in 1983. She became a resident of Pleasantview Home in 2009. Lorraine died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 89 years. She is survived by a daughter: Sherri (Terry) Bringman of Kinross; two grandsons: Nicholas Bringman and Christopher Bringman; a great granddaughter: Jenna and a brother: LaMoyne Hillyer of Tipton. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Francis and Ray, two brothers: Harold Hillyer and Raymond Hillyer; three sisters: Gladys Paustian, Violet Deering and Melba Miller. Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Oakdale Cemetery in Wilton. There will be no visitation. The Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.
