Loretta Greiner, age 89, of Washington, formerly of Keota, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Washington County Hospital. Loretta was born March 4, 1920, near Keota, to Frank and Lucy (Haupert) Britten. She attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Keota High School in 1938. On September 24, 1940, she married Cyril F. Greiner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. The couple lived in the Harper, North English and Keota communities. Loretta moved to Washington in the fall of 2006. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Survivors include three sons: Jerome A. and wife Marlene Greiner of Cedar Rapids, Gary Greiner of Cedar Rapids and Marvin F. Greiner and wife Jeannie of Keota; one daughter: Kathy Brinning and husband Roger of Keota; 18 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and a brother Raymond Britten of Parnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Cyril on November 25, 1997; daughter: Donna Jean Greiner in October of 1988; two grandchildren: Joe Greiner and Casey Greiner and three sisters: Lucille Britten in infancy, Helen E. Kaska, and Dorothy Peck; and a brother John "Jack" Britten. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church.
