Loren E. Carver, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at his home. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 19, 2008, beginning after 12 noon at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Charles Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Lambirth Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Great River Hospice and Henry County Cancer Fund. The son of Pearl and Dorothy Katherine Kirk Carver, Loren Eugene was born November 7, 1931, in Lockridge, IA. He moved to Mt. Pleasant as a young boy with his family and was a 1950 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Following high school, Loren joined the National Guard. On June 29, 1952, he married Delores Ann Snook at the Methodist Church in Fairfield, IA. She survives. Loren served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. As a young man, he was employed at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He owned and operated Carver's Produce and later Carver's CB Radio and Sales in Mt. Pleasant. Loren and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He was an avid gardener and took pride in canning his produce. Loren enjoyed playing pool, bicycling, and using the computer to research a variety of topics. He liked going to casinos, watching game shows on television, and was a dedicated NASCAR fan. He was a former member of the Iris City CB Club. Along with his wife, Delores, Loren is survived by three daughters, Lorna (Dennis)Henessee of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Sherry Saltzman of Morning Sun, IA, and Joni (Steve) Davis of Burlington, IA; one son, Kelly Carver of New London; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one step-brother, Don (Ula) Smith and two step-sisters, Irene (Sam) Cook and Evelyn Clark, all of California. Loren was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Carver; his parents; a son-in-law, Jerry Saltzman; a half-sister, Lorene Bogue; and a half-brother, Gary Smith.
