Conroy- Loras Robert Osweiler was born December 6, 1955, in Sigourney, Iowa the son of Robert W. and Marilyn Lou (Bickford) Osweiler. He graduated in 1974 from English Valley High School, in 1978 from Iowa State University with a degree in business and earned his MBA from the University of Montana in 1986. Loras served in the United States Air Force from 1978-1995, retiring as a Major. Loras was united in marriage to Jane Vercande on January 24, 1975, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Keswick, Iowa. When they moved back to Iowa, Loras worked at Pearson from 2000-2008, after which he did assorted retirement jobs. Loras fully enjoyed retirement with volunteer work and as a constantly changing hobbyist. One of his greatest joys was his “grand dates” with his grandchildren. He was an enthusiastic learner, always looking for the next class to take, or place to travel to. Loras died on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, at the age of 68 years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Jane; two children, Jennifer (Jeff) Lundquist and Adam (Carlene) Osweiler; his favorite grandsons, Bryce, Grayson and Parker; his favorite granddaughter, Florissa; siblings Tom Osweiler of Cedar Rapids, Becky Osweiler-Hott of Johnston, Kurt Osweiler of Williamsburg, Scott Osweiler of Story City, Mary (James) Gent of Wellman and Colleen Johnston of North Liberty; sister-in-law Margaret Osweiler of Webster; parents-in-law Eldon and Peggy Vercande; and many other in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jeff Osweiler and his sister Rhonda Osweiler.
A visitation will be Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 4:00 pm Thursday. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 10:30 am at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. A general memorial fund has been established.
