Lora L. Shetler was born September 14, 1935 near Kalona, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Fannie (Miller) Doolin. She attended Center rural school. On June 7, 1953 she was united in marriage to Marland J. Shetler at the East Union Mennonite Church. They were in I-W service in Des Moines for two years and then returned to Kalona to farm. Lora sold Avon, worked at the Post Office, and along with her husband they owned and operated the Kalonial Townhouse Restaurant from 1976 - 2003. She was currently working at the Kalona Cheese Factory. She was a charter member of the Kalona Mennonite Church, WMSC, and she enjoyed her Bible study group. She volunteered at the Crowded Closet, Crooked Creek Christian Camp and she was a MOPS mentor. Lora died peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2008 at her home in Kalona from complications of cancer at the age of 72 years. Lora is survived by 3 daughters - Cindy Litwiller and husband Merlin of Fort Dodge; Carla Slaubaugh and husband Doug of Parnell; Carol Gingerich and husband Maynard of Riverside; a son Jim Shetler and wife Jessica of Dubuque; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters - Arlene White of Las Vegas, Nevada; Aletha Smithson and husband Tom of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and a brother - Morris Doolin and wife Rozetta of Salem, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Marland on May 21, 2002.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Crooked Creek Christian Camp and Washington County Hospice.
