Lola “Maxine” Stagner, 92, of Columbus Junction died Thursday, November 21st, 2024, at United Presbyterian Home in Washington. Visitation is Sunday November 24th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Yoder Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Services are Monday, November 25th at 1:00 at Yoder Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Private burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery.
Lola “Maxine” Hudson Stagner, was born January 17, 1932 in Daytonville, the daughter of Lawrence E and Thelma G Perrin Hudson, and grew up in the Wellman area. She was united in marriage to Donald Stagner January 20, 1950 in Washington and together they welcomed 3 children, Kevan, Connie, and Andy Stagner. The couple lived in the Wellman community until 1972 when they purchased their farm and moved to Columbus Junction. Maxine was an active member of the Wellman Baptist church until she and Don established their farm.
She worked at various jobs while raising her family, Daytonville Home Grocery, Advance Ross, Nisly Grocery, in home care for elderly, and Washington County Hospital to name a few. She was a typical farmers wife, doing chores, and helping with field work, while tending a large garden and yard. Donald and Maxine retired from farming in 1985. Maxine and Donald were happily married for nearly 52 years until his passing in 2002.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, gardening, and tracing her family history. She loved spending her time with her family and was an AMAZING grandmother to her five grandchildren. She attended many of their school events and hosted lots of sleepovers at Grandma’s House. She was a great cook and adored her 4 great grandsons.
Maxine is survived by daughters; Kevan and husband Rodney Yoder of Camp Crook, South Dakota and Connie and husband Wes Miller of Loveland Colorado; and son; Andy Stagner of Columbus Junction, five grandchildren, Michelle Miller, Crystal Miller (Blayne Chingren) and Rebecca Miller (Rollin Perry) and Ashley Sohm (Bryant) and Lucas Stagner, great-grandsons, Andre, Levi and Harrison Chingren, and Caleb Sohm.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, parents, stepfather, and siblings, Gene, Gerald, Dick, Tom, Ray, and Arlene.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hospice of Washington County in the name of Maxine Stagner.
