Lola "Babe" Dodds Sainsbury, 93,of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Hillsboro, IA, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit. Visitation for Mrs. Sainsbury will be held on Friday, June 30, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, at 10:00 a.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. David Doerr officiating. Burial will be in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Hillsboro Library and the Hillsboro Fire and Rescue Squad. Lola Belle Harlan was born on April 15, 1913, on a farm south of Hillsboro, IA, to Walter Alvah and and Lillian Tade Harlan. On February 2, 1935, she married James Malcolm Dodds. He died January 22, 1978. She later married Thomas Sainsbury, who also preceded her in death. "Babe" graduated from Hillsboro Public School where she played basketball in high school and continued to be a huge fan of the sport the rest of her life. After high school, she attended Ft. Madison Business College. Mrs. Sainsbury was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church, a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a past Worthy Matron, and a member of the Hillsboro Alpha Club. A homemaker, wife, and mother all of her adult life, she was active in the community; loved music, card games, and crocheting her many, many afghans. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy A. Hawbaker of Hillsboro, IA, Selma R. and her husband Gary Dinsmore of Keosauqua, IA, and Patricia J. and her husband Robert Anderson of Stockport, IA; and one son J. Michael Dodds and his wife Kathy of Hallsville, MO; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two step-sons, Ron Sainsbury and Ernie Sainsbury and families, all of Canada. Along with her husbands, Mrs. Sainsbury was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers, one son-in-law, one granddaughter, one step-son, and numerous friends.
