Lola Doris Golon was born on August 21, 1916, in Carthage, IL the daughter of James Henry and Lena Mae Broomfleet Flack. The family moved to Ottumwa, IA where Lola graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1933. After graduation, she attended Ottumwa Beauty Academy. Lola was united in marriage to Walter Richard Golon in 1947 in Chicago, IL. They lived in Milwaukee, WI from 1947 until 1996 when Walter preceded her in death. Lola worked 27 years as a switchboard operator at the Milwaukee Journal. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and attended the Catholic Church while in Milwaukee. In 1996 she moved to Sigourney, IA and then to Oskaloosa, IA in 1999. Lola attended the Beacon United Methodist Church. She loved her family and enjoyed bowling and polka dancing. Lola became a resident of Manor House Care Center in Sigourney, IA in March 2003. She died there on February 8th follwoing a long illness. She lived 90 years, 5 months and 18 days. She is survived by sisters Virginia Stout of Cedar Rapids, IA and Rose Mary Kerr of Oskaloosa, IA; and brothers Donald Flack of Cedar Rapids, IA and Robert Flack of New London, IA. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Louise Flack, and brothers Emory Flack, Jesse Flack, and Jim Flack A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Pastor Dan Ridenour officiating. Burial will follow in the Ottumwa Cemetery in Ottumwa, IA. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 9, 2007 from 6 PM to 8 PM. A general memorial fund has been established.
