Lois I. Stebbins, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, August 25, 2006, at her home. Visitation for Lois will be on Monday, August 28, 2006, beginning after 12 noon at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at 3:00 p.m., at the Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeff Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Mt. Pleasant Woman's Club for the beautification of the Henry County Court House lawn and the annual Iris Show. The daughter of Arnold T. and Ida L. Bahe Zummak, Lois was born November 9, 1928, in Oelwein, Iowa. She was a graduate of Oelwein High School and attended Wartburg College and art school in Chicago. On April 22, 1951, she married James H. Stebbins at the Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, IA. The couple lived in Maquoketa, Rock Island, New London, and settled in Mt. Pleasant in 1964, where Lois has lived ever since. The couple divorced. A homemaker and mother, Lois loved taking care of her family. When her children were older, she worked at Iowa Wesleyan College in the Admission's Office and Standard of Beaverdale Lumber Yard as a bookkeeper. She attended Calvary Baptist Church. Lois enjoyed gardening and grew the iris of the year a few years ago. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed architectural type drawing and designed the house she lived in. Lois is survived by three daughters, Linda and her husband Bob Hoover of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Carol and her husband Steve Hildreth of Hastings, MN, and Susan and her husband Jeff Haines of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Jim Stebbins and his wife Judy of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and three sisters, Wilma Anderson of Postville, IA, Arlene Thiele of Oelwein, IA, and Mardene Zummak of Palm Desert, CA. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Lois was preceded in death by two brother-in-laws, H. E. Anderson and Curt Thiele.
