Lois M. Augustine was born on March 22, 1920 near Keswick, Iowa, the daughter of Sherman and Ruth McCay Moore. She was united in marriage to William W. Augustine at her home near Keswick on December 24, 1939. She lived and raised a family in that house for 78 of her 92 years. Lois graduated from Keswick High School in 1937. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and did some courses at William Penn College in Oskaloosa. Lois taught public school three years. She valued education highly. Her two children were taught that college education was mandatory. Lois and Bill were active members of the Keswick United Methodist Church for almost 60 years. They were snowbird members of First United Methodist Church in Bradenton, Florida where they spent 20 winters. Ever the farmers, they knew many of the strawberry and fruit growers in the area. Lois became a resident of the Valley View Assisted Living in North English in 2004 and the English Valley Care Center in March 2010. Lois is survived by a son Kenneth (Jan) Augustine of Ames, Iowa; a daughter Kay Graham of Keswick, Iowa; 3 grandchildren: Karen Fickel (Ron), Brad Graham and Kelly Moore (Brian); 5 great grandchildren: Abigail, Andrew, Daniel & Elliana Fickel & Lois Moore. Lois was blessed to see all 5 great grandchildren in the past two weeks, including the youngest, her namesake, Lois Moore. Lois was thrilled that her love of sweets has been passed on to the 4th generation. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband William in December 2003 and a sister Thelma Halverson in 2009 Lois, age 92, died on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 16, 2012, at the Keswick United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Tunnicliff officiating. Burial will be in the Sorden Cemetery, rural Webster. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Sunday at the Powell Funeral Home in North English.
