Williamsburg-Lois Pauline Carney was born November 7, 1924 in Koszta, Iowa, the daughter of Merton O. and Mollie H. Shelton Hinder. She grew up in the Koszta, Victor, Ladora and Parnell communities. She graduated from Parnell High School in 1942. Lois was united in marriage to Keith Garringer on December 9, 1944 in Monroe, Iowa, he died on June 4, 1950. Lois later married Gerald T. Carney on July 31, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Lois worked for the Journal Tribune as a lino type operator for 18 years and later partime for ACE Hardware in Williamsburg. Lois enjoyed bowling, crocheting and needle point. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and the National Catholic Society of Forresters. Lois died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the English Valley Care Center in North English after a sudden illness at the age of 82 years. She is survived by her daughter Phyllis (Albert) Hubbell of Parnell; two grandchildren: James (Deb) Hubbell of Kalona and Heidi (John) Kirschbaum of Spencer, Iowa; two great grandchildren: Owen Kirschbaum and Carly Hubbell; a sister: Thelma Walter of North English. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Keith in 1950 and Gerald in 1998; infant daughter: Frances Carney; a grandson Chris Hubbell; a brother: Otto Hinder and a brother-in-law: William Walter. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be at the St. Michael's Cemetery in Holbrook. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. There will be a prayer service at 6:00pm Tuesday. Memorials are for the Iowa County Safe Haven and Alzheimer Research. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries.
