Lloyd Rank was born on September 13, 1922 on the family farm, rural Deep River, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Sarah Pfiester Rank. He attended Bunker Hill country school and graduated from Keswick High School in 1940. Lloyd was united in marriage to Mary June Roberg on August 13, 1955 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They farmed near Deep River until moving to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg in 2005. Lloyd enjoyed working with his machinery and livestock, was well known for his horsemanship, loved traveling, reading and having a good conversation. He and Mary hosted many foreign exchange students over the years. He served on the DR-M School Board, the St. Joseph Catholic Church Parish Council, the Barnes City CO-OP Board, the FMHA Board, and was a charter member of the Iowa County Cattleman's Association. Lloyd struggled the past year with Alzheimers and died of complications of pneumonia on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Highland Ridge, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 1 day. He is survived by his wife Mary of Williamsburg; sons Paul Rank and wife Gina of rural Deep River and Karl Rank and girlfriend Tressa Burch of Norway, Ia; daughter Sandra Cobb and husband Michael of North English; 2 granddaughters: Stephanie and Desta Rank; and a sister Pauline Icenbice of Deep River. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters: Mabel Cochran, Rene Schwer, Hazel Kron, Verna Myron, Mary Cogswell, Josephine Elick , Marvel Greiner and Doris Rank. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English with Rev. Pat Lumsden officiating. Burial will be in the Armah Cemetery, rural North English. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM with a wake service at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English.
