Lloyd M. Hervey, 91, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family on June 28th, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He was born September 8, 1924 North of Keswick where he lived most of his life. The son of Charles Bair Hervey and Blanche Ferree Hervey. After attending the country school he graduated from Keswick High School in 1942. On June 28th 1945 he married Bernadine Taylor. He farmed for several years and worked at Warder & Lee for 18 years. Later, working 13 years for the University of Iowa in the carpenter shop retiring in 1990. Lloyd was a member of the Keswick Methodist Church where he served on the church board and other positions. For 15 years he served with Bernadine on organizing the church Ice Cream Supper. He was assistant leader to the Prairie Rustlers 4H Club. He spent many hours helping his daughters with their 4H livestock and projects. One of his greatest joys were his three grandchildren, Taylor and Bailey, twin granddaughters, and his only grandson Bret. He drove many miles to watch them participate in sports, especially softball and baseball.
Lloyd and Bernadine celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary the summer of 2015 with an open house at the Keswick Methodist Church. He passed away on the day of their 71st Wedding Anniversary. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bernadine, and his three daughters, Barbara of Clive, Bonnie of Osceola, and Betsy (Jamie) Barnett of Indianola; three grandchildren- Taylor, Bailey, and Bret; several nephews and a niece. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers- Rex and Elroy.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Keswick Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday July 2, 2016. Visitation will be held Friday July 1st from 6-8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery North of Thornburg. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Keswick Methodist Church.
