Lloyd John Troyer was born June 12, 1918 in Shickley, Nebraska the son of Lloyd and Emma (Kennel) Troyer. He moved to Iowa in 1940. On May 18, 1941 he was united in marriage to Erma Stutzman at the Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. He farmed in the Wellman and Frytown communities until moving to Kalona in 1980. He was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School; he served on the IMS school board. He volunteered with Mennonite Disaster Service, served 3 months in Haiti with Water for Life, and Lloyd and Erma hosted 7 international exchange students over the years. Lloyd died on Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a brief illness at the age of 89 years. Lloyd is survived by 5 children - Omer Troyer and wife Mary Jane of North Port, FL.; Marlene Miller and husband Daniel of El Paso, TX.; Carolyn Troyer of Iowa City; Loren Troyer and wife Kathy of Raleigh, NC.; Clayton Troyer and wife Laverna of Kalona; 9 grandchildren - Trent Troyer and wife Marcie of Ankeny; Jason Troyer and wife Jennifer of Maryville, TN.; Andrew Miller of Washington D.C.; Nathan Miller and wife Tiffany of Moline, IL.; Jenessa Troyer of Waterloo; Jonathon Troyer of Cedar Rapids; Emily Troyer of Rochester, MN.; Casey Troyer of Raleigh, NC.; Morgan Troyer of Raleigh, NC.; 2 great grandchildren - Amanda and Austin Troyer of Ankeny; 5 sisters - Nettie Fehlberg of Wellman; Wilma Becker and husband Paul of Mountain Lake, MN.; Verda Troyer, Alta Troyer, Della Yoder and husband Keith all of Kalona; and a sister-in-law Vivian Troyer of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Erma on December 12, 2007; an infant granddaughter Sarah Troyer; 3 brothers - Wilbur, Warren and Ivan; and a sister Ida Kliewer.
A memorial fund has been established for Kalona First Responders and Iowa City Hospice.
