Lloyd Harlen McGuire was born on August 20, 1921 near North English, IA, the son of Harlen W. and Effie Grimm McGuire. He lived and farmed his entire life in the North English area. Lloyd attended country school near his home. He was united in marriage to Mildred M. Van Dee on April 25, 1950 in Oskaloosa, IA. Lloyd was a member of the Tilton Evangelical Methodist Church. He worked for Farm Service and drove a school bus for several years. He enjoyed watching game shows on TV and attending performances at the What Cheer Opera House. Lloyd died following a long illness at his home on Tuesday, January 13, 2009. He lived 87 years, 4 months and 24 days. He is survived by his wife Mildred of rural North English, IA; 11 children: Kenneth (Lea) McGuire of North English, IA; Marvin McGuire of North English, IA; Virginia (Robert) McGuire of Oskaloosa, IA; Vivian (Jeff) Clark of Millersburg, IA; Martha (Tadd Wiseman) McGuire of Webster, IA; Harlen (Kim) McGuire of Stanley, NC; Carl McGuire of Broadview, MT; Neva (Bruce) Redlinger of North English, IA; Larry (Michele) McGuire of North English, IA; Dwight (Svetlana) McGuire of Darlington County Durham, England; Lyle McGuire of North English, IA; 20 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister Mary Loretta Biwer of North English, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Dorothea Wright. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2009, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Pastor Kenneth L. Lake officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, January 16, 2009 from 12 PM to 2 PM. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near North English. A general memorial fund has been established.
