Lloyd "Dillon" Benge, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Henry County Health Center. Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, IA, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013, at the Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Camp Courageous and St. Jude Children's Hospital. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born April 4, 1930 in Davis County, IA, Lloyd Dillon was the son of Earl Wayne and Frances Marie (Campbell) Benge. The family moved to Mt. Pleasant when he was eight years old where he attended Mt. Pleasant Community Schools. On May 8, 1954, Dillon married Shirley Puffinbarger in Kahoka, MO. For 43 years Dillon worked as a mechanical engineer at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, IA. Along with working as a mechanical engineer, he helped Shirley's parents on the family farm when Shirley's dad became ill. He retired from the Ammunition Plant in 1994. After retirement Dillon worked part time for Mid-Am Building Supply. Dillon enjoyed camping with his young family and continued the tradition for many years. His favorite hobby was following the activities of his grandchildren. He was a fanatic sports fan, a sprint car race fan, and loved to doodle. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sons, Randy (Maggie) Benge of Ankeny, IA, Brian (Loyce) Benge of Knoxville, IA, and Rusty (Laura) Benge of Baxter, IA; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers, Earl (Delores) Benge of Mt. Pleasant, IA, LuVerne Benge of Glendale, AZ, Wade (Dee) Benge of Mt. Pleasant, IA , and Zane (Paula) Benge of Ft. Madison, IA; three sisters, Velda ("Tink") Conner of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Ilynne Nichols of Bushnell, IL and Sherill (Bob) Detrick of Mt. Pleasant, IA; along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding Dillon in death are his parents; a stillborn son, Bruce; a brother-in-law, Robert Nichols; and a sister-in-law, Lovie Benge.
