Linus Rauenbuehler, 81, of Salem, IA, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation for Mr. Rauenbuehler will begin after 12 noon on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. The family will greet friends starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel where a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral mass will be held Friday, May 2, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Inurnment with military rites will be held at a later date at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorials have been established to the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Henry County Relay For Life Cancer Fund. Born January 18, 1927, in West Point, IA, Linus John was the son of Clem and Anna Jacobsmeier Rauenbuehler. He graduated in 1945 from St. Marys High School in West Point. He was in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. On September 26, 1953, Linus married Dorothy Dingman at the Saint James Catholic Church in St. Paul, IA. The couple was engaged in farming in the Salem and West Point Area. Mr. Rauenbuehler was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in West Point and the Salem American Legion. Linus was a farm equipment mechanic, loved woodworking, and enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Along with his wife, Dorothy, survivors include four sons, Jerry (Penny) Rauenbuehler of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Mike Rauenbuehler of Salem, IA, Joe (Kathy) Rauenbuehler, and Bill Rauenbuehler, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and one daughter, Sue McConnell of Danville, IA. He is also survived by two brothers, Melvin (Bertha) Rauenbuehler of West Point, IA, and Carl (Mary Ann) Rauenbuehler of Sterling, Illinois; and four sisters, Clemie (Ed) Holtkamp and Anna Lee (Willis) Conrad all of West Point, IA, Kay (Ron) Mayer of Denmark, IA, and Lavina (Carl) Hellweg of Houghton, IA. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Linus was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters, and a son-in-law.
