WILLIAMSBURG - Lilly Eleanor Peirce was born Saturday, April 2, 1921 near South Amana, Iowa the daughter of Herman and Anna (Von Ahsen) Lorenz. She was baptized on May 2, 1921at Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed on March 25, 1934 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She attended country school for a year, then Immanuel Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran School in Williamsburg graduating from Williamsburg High School in 1939. Lilly attended Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids graduating in 1940. She then went to work for Lee's Beauty and Barber Shop, until 1941 when she purchased Starlite Beauty Shop. Lilly was united in marriage to Leighton Walter Peirce on November 28, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Lilly continued her business until Leighton returned home from the service in the U.S. Army in 1945. The couple lived on the farm thru out their married life, Leighton died December 1975 and in 1977 Lilly moved into Williamsburg. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was active in the Women's Guild and the Fellowship Club; taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. During WWII she was active with the American Red Cross. Lilly died on Sunday, August 1, 2004 at her home in Williamsburg following a sudden illness at the age of 83 years. Lilly is survived by 3 children - Sharon Peirce of Columbia, Missouri; Richard Peirce and wife Jeanette of Williamsburg; Phyllis Morrison and Dan Morrison of Sigourney; 5 grandchildren - Douglas Peirce and wife Melinda; Kristen Lane and husband Chad; Angela Putnum and husband Rob; Jamie Morrison and wife Bonnie and Jeremy Morrison; 5 great grandchildren - Garrett Peirce; Amanda Peirce; Payton Lane; Trenton Lane; and Riley Morrison; a sister - Leona Meyer of Urbana and two sister-in-laws: Florence Dietrich of Williamsburg and Ruth Stevens of Sumner. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 2 brothers - Edwin Lorenz and Anton Lorenz a sister Elsie Teggatz.. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m.Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, Pastor Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Memorials are for the St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. Messages and tributes may be sent to the family at www.powellfuneralhomes.com click on obituaries. Casket Bearers: Stan Teggatz, Dwight Lorenz, Steve Meyer, Loren Stevens, David Dietrich, Steve Dietrich, Todd Dietrich, Dale Kisling and Jim Simmons. Organist is Karin Winwood, Vocalist: Bill & Rita McDonald and Ed & Sandra Ficken will sing Go in Love and the congregational hymns are How Great Thou Art and I'm but a Stranger Here, Heaven is My Home.
