Leitha I. Spiess was born on June 21, 1912, in Hayesville, IA, to Cleve and Elsie Beasley. She married Fred Spiess on December 31, 1930 in Hayesville.. She worked various jobs in Iowa while married. She would travel to Estes Park, CO every summer to work with her husband at the Loveland Heights Cottages from 1960 to 1973. Fred preceded her in death in November 1974. She then went back alone in 1976 until 1979 to work at the Cottages, Letha moved from Iowa to Estes Park in 1982 with her daughter Dolores and son-in-law Gene Claypool. A that time shehe house doing what she loved, cooking, baking and making her "infamous" noodles along with a wide variety of breads and cookies. She lived in Estes Park until 2005 when she moved to Denver, CO. "Grandma" never met a stranger. She made friends no matter what the situation and enjoyed every bit of her 96 years. Letha died on Thursday, October 2, 2008 in Westminister, CO. She is survived by grandsons: Mark (Mary) Claypool of Arvada, CO and Mike (Kelly) Claypool of Estes Park, CO; great granddaughters Katharine Marie Claypool and Michelle Lee Claypool both of Estes Park, CO; as well as many nieces, nephews and terrific friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Dolores Marie Claypool, brothers Ralph and Roy Beasley, and sisters Lela Kerkove and Lila Crane. "GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND I LOVE YOU" A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Rev. Cliff Haider officiating. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the funeral home.
