LeRoy Jennings, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Beverly J. Jennings, 76, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit. Joint graveside services for LeRoy and Beverly Jennings will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at 1:30 p.m., at Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, with the Rev. Chuck Comfort officiating. Friends may also leave cards and memorials at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel during normal business hours. Memorials have been established to Henry County Animal Rescue Organization. The son of Charles M. and Florence M. Carlson Jennings, Arthur LeRoy was born November 25, 1932, in Columbus Junction, IA. At the age of ten, his family moved to Mt. Pleasant. LeRoy was a 1950 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, attended Iowa Wesleyan College for two years, and was a graduate of The Wisconsin Institute for Mortuary Science in Milwaukee. On October 4, 1953, he married Beverly Jean Timmerman. The couple cherished 54 years of marriage. LeRoy played four sports in high school and attended Boys' State. He was a member of the Boy Scouts where he earned the Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow Awards. LeRoy enlisted in the Iowa National Guard, served several years, and was discharged on December 18, 1958, holding the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a retired licensed funeral director and worked as a police officer for the City of Mt. Pleasant for 13 years. LeRoy was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a former member of Mt. Pleasant Masonic Lodge #8 A.F. and A.M., Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis Club, and the American Quarter Horse Association. LeRoy had a love of animals and had a special interest in the Henry County Animal Rescue Organization. He was a former member of the Iowa and National Funeral Directors' Associations. Survivors include a grandson, Justin (Lucy Poole) Jennings of O'Fallon, MO; two great-grandchildren, Lennox and Mya Jennings of O'Fallon, MO; and by a sister, Gaye Richenberger of Plano, TX. Mr. Jennings is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his wife, LeRoy was preceded in death by a son, Tim Jennings; a granddaughter Lindsey Jennings; his parents; and an infant sister.
