Leroy J. Edmundson, was born April 10, 1919, in Thornburg, Iowa, the son of John Leroy and Grace Mabel (Stafford) Edmundson. He graduated from Thornburg High School in 1936. He served in the US Coast Guard in 1942. In November 1942, he married Margaret Ann Latcham. He lived in the Brighton, North English, Thornburg and Keswick communities until August of 2009, when he moved to Ankeny. He was a member of the Keswick American Legion, Masonic Lodge, and the Kaaba Shrine. He enjoyed playing baseball for Thornburg in his younger years. Leroy died on Monday, December 6, 2010, at the Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, Iowa, at the age of 91 years. He is survived by 2 daughters: Linda Zeeb of Cedar Rapids and Brenda (Jim) Colby of Ankeny. 7 grandchildren: Scott Edmundson, Stacy Rook, Shea Rook, Hope Exline, Jason McBeth, Todd & Mike Colby; and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Peggy Gorsch; a granddaughter Michelle McBeth and 2 sisters Lorene McGimpsey and Doris Davis. Celebration of Life Service and a Masonic Service will be held 12:00 PM, Friday, December 10, 2010, at the Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service, North English. Visitation will be Friday from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM on Friday. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery, rural Thornburg, with Military Rites by the Keswick American Legion.
