Leora Clark

Leora Clark, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, at the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will begin after 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2006, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday evening. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery, west of Rome, IA. A memorial has been established to the Henry County Cancer Fund in her memory. Born May 27, 1914, in Fairfield, IA, Leora was the daughter of Lucas and Mida Essley Zihlman. She grew up on the family farm north of Lockridge, which is now Camp Golden Valley. She was a graduate of Lockridge High School. She married Orville Dold, Jay Hill, and Branson Clark, who preceded her in death. Leora was a waitress and over the years was employed by Van's Lunch Box and Green's Caf. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #1003, VFW Auxiliary, and attended the Congregational-Universalist Church of Mt. Pleasant. Leora enjoyed baking, embroidering, and playing the piano. She also liked to grow flowers and travel by train. Mrs. Clark is survived by three daughters, Dolores and her husband Wade Benge of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Virginia and her husband Mike Lee of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Judy Hill and her husband Tom Martin of New London, IA; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by one sister, Helen Wixom of Keokuk, IA; one brother, Rollie Zihlman and his wife Elsie of Fairfield, IA; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husbands, Mrs. Clark has been preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glen Zihlman and Lloyd Zihlman; and five sisters, Alma Jacobs, Gladys Swailes, Vera Wehrle, Edna Vandersnick, and Hannah Zihlman.
