Leonard Young, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died suddenly Wednesday, April 25, 2007. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Daryl Jessup officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Mills Cemetery with military rites provided by the Henry County Honor Guard. A memorial has been established to the Oakland Mills Community Church or the Oakland Mills Cemetery. Leonard was born on May 28, 1926, in Henry County, IA. He was the son of William and Blanche Scott Young. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1944. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On June 18, 1950, he married Janet Rose Hart. She survives. Mr. Young was a mechanic and worked at the Mt. Pleasant Ford and Chevy garages. He was also employed in the maintenance department of the Henry County Health Center. Leonard was a carpenter, electrician, and also did radio and television repair at Young's Radio Shop. He enjoyed wood working and recently made over ninety rolling pins. He loved working with his hands and could fix anything. Mr. Young had served as a deacon at Oakland Mills Community Church and was a former volunteer on the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department. Along with his wife, Janet, survivors include four daughters, Ramona (Dale) Tracy of Overland Park, KS, Melody (Nick) Dingus of Hemet, CA, Tammy (Mark) Larson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Valerie Farr (Dave Messer) of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and one sister, Louise (Dan) Woolley of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He is also survived by six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; five half-brothers; one half-sister; and one step-grandson.
