Leona Evelyn Miller was born December 1, 1924 in Milford, Nebraska the daughter of William and Emma (Stutzman) Roth. On January 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to Daniel E. Miller Jr. in Milford. They lived and farmed in the Wellman community. Leona was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church, and was active in the women's sewing. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed the neighborhood sunshine birthday club. Leona died on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 84 years. Leona is survived by two daughters - Rachel Quist (Paul) of Waterloo; Mary Lou Gingerich (Ed) of Parnell; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Miller of North English; nine grandchildren - Diane Alcott, Dale Quist, Darin Quist, Lisa Drost, Les Miller, Lori Witthoft, Julie Birky, Ranee Brokaw, Heidi Gingerich; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister - Irva Weiss (Phil) of Salem, OR; three brothers - George Roth of Waterloo; Harold Roth (Donna) of Milford, NE; Wayne Roth (Aloha) of Milford, NE; and two sisters-in-law Doris Roth of Council Bluffs; and Lauralee Kauffman of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Lyle, a granddaughter Andrea, and two brothers - Rollin and Les. Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery; followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. at the Wellman Mennonite Church. Rev Marvin Hostetler will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Saturday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman, where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Wellman Mennonite Church.
