Leona E. Glandon, age 97, died on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. A celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 11, 2014, with Pastor Edwin Jordan officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the North English Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established. Leona Eleanor Glandon was born on November 20, 1916, near Eddyville, Iowa, the daughter of John & Mary Belle (Durbala) Gasper. She attended country schools and received her teaching certificate. She was united in marriage to Marion William Glandon on January 16, 1938 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They made their home in Illinois, Washington, Iowa, and then moved to Williamsburg, Iowa in 1955. Leona enjoyed dancing, baking pies, gardening, canning, reading, and spending time with her friends and family. Leona is survived by her daughter Mary Lynn (Roger) Kretchmer of Osage Beach, MO; a son-in-law James Riess of Conroy; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter Patricia Glandon, daughter Nancy Riess, two brothers Carl and John; and a sister Helen.
