Leon Vern Condon was born May 11, 1940 in Walker, Iowa, the son of Jack and Harriett Zerba Condon. After receiving his education in Walker, Shorty worked for a time before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963. He honorably served his country, stationed in Korea receiving accommodations for his quick act in saving military equipment from a flood. Shorty also took a long awaited fishing trip to Alaska with son, Josh, grandson Jacob, nephews Shayne and Colby.

Leon, “Shorty” or Babe as he was affectionately known lived a full life and was a fighter till the end. Shorty was a truck driver for many years, hauling everything you can think of. In his spare time, you could find Shorty tinkering or building something in his garage. You could also find him hanging out at the Ladora Stora or Big G deli, conversing with his friends.

Shorty is survived by his five children Amy Fairchild of Luzerne, Debbie Condon-Hill of Ladora, Bonnie Condon of Benton, LA, Joshua (Lorie) Condon of Dysart, and Sarah (Jim) Brooks of Newport, MI; a step-son Cody (Hailie) Whaley; a sister Mary (Merlen) Laska; two step brothers Richard (Joyce) Pisarik of Centerville and David (Karen) Pisarik of Marion, an uncle Merwin "Arkie" Zerba; grandchildren Tasha Scott (Dave), David Evans, Monica Prevett, Bobby Joe Hill (Josefina), Anna Brook Morlock (Steven), Chad Hill, Kyle Neelans, Tabor Allen, Cara, Jacob, Amilia, and Allysia Condon, Kodey and Gracey Smiley, Olivia Brooks, Misty Fonner, Apollo Condon, Candice Condon, Justin (Melody) Tompkins; 38 great grandchildren (Baby Leon Morlock arrived September 15, 2020); his former wife, Carla Condon, close friends Jeff Buresh and Wayne Mussman; and many nieces and nephews. Shorty also leaves behind many friends who will miss him greatly, including his faithful companions Joe and Cole, his rescue dogs.

Shorty was preceded in death by his father Jack Condon; his mother and stepfather Harriett Zerba and Aloysius Pisarik; a brother Ralph Condon; a sister in law Darlene Condon; a nephew Gene Condon and a great granddaughter Faith Steele.

The family would like to thank the staff at Belle Plaine Specialty Care for their wonderful care of Leon during his stay.
