Leola W. Prottsman, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, January 20, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation for Mrs. Prottsman will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, beginning after 12 noon at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Henry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Henry County Home Activity Fund, the V.F.W. Post #2561 Auxiliary, and Henry County Animal Rescue League. Born October 19, 1924, in Peoria, Il, Leola Wynona was the daughter of Owen M. and Frances L. Schirmer Hummell. Leola's family moved to Mt. Pleasant, IA, in 1932. She was a 1943 Mt. Pleasant High School graduate. On May 21, 1944, she married Donald W. Prottsman, of Mt. Pleasant, in Detroit, MI, before he went overseas. He survives. In her early years, Leola worked at the Spurgeons, Staats' Ribbon Factory, and the Hamburger Inn. Following her marriage, she worked at Shaffer Pen and John Green's Department Store in Mt. Pleasant. Leola worked in the canteen at the Mental Health Institute and retired from there in the early 1980s. Mrs. Prottsman was of the Methodist faith. She had been a member of the Business and Professional Women, the South Center Club, and served as president of the V.F.W. Post #2561 Auxiliary in Mt. Pleasant. Along with her husband, Leola is survived by one son, Leo Prottsman of Gettysburg, PA; one daughter, Jane Prottsman of Mt. Pleasant, IA; four brothers, Kenneth Hummell and his wife Connie of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Robert Hummell of Santa Ana, CA, Henry Hummell and his wife Mary Lou of Orange, CA, and Keith Hummell and his wife Nancy of Cedar Rapids, IA; and two sisters, Mary Koble of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Frances and her husband Tom Martin of Fountain Valley, CA. Mrs. Prottsman was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Dale Koble.
