North English- Lenore Sawyer Bradley Lekin was born at Delta, IA on October 4, 1921 to Merle and Florence Blaylock Sawyer. She attended school at Ollie and Delta. She married Thomas Bradley Jr. on October 8, 1938. They farmed in the Martinsburg area until his death in 1963. She was working at the Keokuk county hospital where she met Glenn Lekin and they were married in 1965. They farmed south of North English until his death in 1993, and then she moved to North English.
She was a member of the North English Methodist Church where she was active on committees. She was active in the Community Center and also enjoyed volunteering at the English Valley Care Center. After moving to North English she enjoyed traveling with friends around Iowa and to the Ozarks. She also traveled from the east to west coast with her family, and even to Europe when she was in her eighties. She was very hospitable, and always had some treats and coffee for those dropping in. She especially enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren, and hosted her family for all the holidays. Wherever she lived she loved planting and maintaining flower beds and keeping her yard neat.
Lenore died on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the English Valley Care Center in North English at the age of 98 years.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald (Pat) Bradley, and Arvene (Betty) Bradley of Ottumwa; a daughter Carolyn (Steve) Hufferd of Iowa City; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Stout of North English; 5 grandchildren, Bryan and Jeff Bradley, Joan Ochoa, Debra Bemis and Greg Robertson; 2 step granddaughters, Roberta Trost and Melody Schwenke; and 10 great grandchildren; and 5 step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, great grandson Tyler Bradley, 2 brothers, Ronald and Leon Sawyer, a half sister, Alice Oliver, a stepdaughter, Doris Reinert and a step grandson Terry Harriman.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial will be in the Garrett Cemetery, near Delta. Visitation will be Saturday, from noon until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the North English First Responders, the North English Community Center or the English Valley Care Center.
