Lena Miller was born July 26, 1931 in Thomas, Oklahoma, the daughter of William G. and Lizzie (Miller) Hochstedler. She moved to Kalona with her family in 1947. Lena accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in her youth and was a member of the Kalona Community Amish Church. On May 6, 1954 she was united in marriage to Jonas D. Miller near Kalona. She was a homemaker, enjoyed tending to her flowers, and watching sunsets. Lena died on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 84 years.
Lena is survived by 2 sons: Marion (Katie Mae) Miller of Walhonding, OH; Linus (Martha Fern) Miller of Kinzers, PA; 4 daughters: Irene (Rich) Buser of Conesville; Ila (Henry JC) Miller of Kalona; Carolyn (Herb) Weiss of Kalona; Marcille (Jeff) Linscheid of North English; 19 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother Lester (Rachel) Hochstedler of Perkins, OK; 2 sisters: Katie Ropp of Seymour, MO; and Martha Smith of Newton, KS; 6 sisters-in-law: Emma Swartzendruber of Costa Rica; Mary D. Miller of Kalona; Bertha Brenneman of Kalona; Eunice Stutzman of Keota; Lovina (Nelson) Hochstedler of Flint, MI; and Elsie Miller of Kalona. She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother Susie Beachy Hochstedler, husband Jonas in 2002, a daughter-in-law Nancy Miller, and numerous in-laws.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 AM Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Minister in charge is Leslie Miller. Burial will be in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 7:30 PM on Thursday at the Fairview Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice and the Wellman Rotary Medical Lending Closet. The family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of love and kindness shown them at this time of loss. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Lena and her family.
