SIGOURNEY- Lena Louise Boehm, was born December 25, 1924, at home in Gibson, Iowa, the daughter of Herman Francis and Ruby Lena (Lester) Wemer. She was a 1942 graduate of Gibson High School. In 1946, she graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Home Economics, Textile and Clothing. She taught in the Hansell, Iowa school system and at Indian Hill Community College. On November 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harold John Boehm, at the First Presbyterian Church in Gibson. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sigourney, where she served as an elder and helped to rebuild the church after the fire in 1993. Lena was a good homemaker, a wonderful mother, and had a great understanding of the art and science of food and clothing preparation. She loved her grandchildren, her church, her community and teaching. Lena died on Friday, July 25, 2008, at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee, IA, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 83 years and 7 months. She is survived by her husband Harold "Skip" Boehm of Waukee; 3 sons- Colin (Jane) Boehm of Iowa City, Norris (Janet) Boehm of Ankeny and Samuel Boehm of Adel; 4 daughters- Julie (Robert) Bushmaker of Whitehall, MT, Laura (Jeffrey) Fulton of Urbandale, Ruby (James) Kahler of Winterset and Tena (Robert) Morgan of Mesa, AZ; 12 grandchildren- Joshua Boehm, Ryan Boehm, Blair Boehm, Ana Boehm, Trenton Bushmaker, Aaron Fulton, Wesley Fulton, Andrea (Timothy) Kraft, Adam Kahler, Ashley Kahler, Graham Boehm and Jesse Boehm; and 1 great grandson Andrew Kraft. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 brothers Richard "Clare" Wemer and James Wemer. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, July 28, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sigourney. Rev. Julie Sterling and Rev. Kate Stangl will officiate. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery, rural Thornburg. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5-7 pm at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney.
