LaVera E. Miller passed from us on November 6, 2007, at her home in Wellman, Iowa following a lengthy illness at the age of 92 years. She was born March 26, 1915, in rural Keota, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Mary Bohrofen Greiner. She graduated from Kennedy School of Cosmetology in Des Moines, and on September 9, 1941, was united in marriage with Jay Russell Miller at St. Mary's Church in Keota. LaVera was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, and TTT Society in Wellman, and Medical Wives Auxiliary Society. She was a Girl Scout leader, and an active member of Mid-Prairie Parents-Teachers Association and in fundraising campaigns for uniforms for the Mid-Prairie Marching Band. LaVera is survived by two sons and three daughters, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren: Jay Miller and family from Santa Barbara, California; Mary Ann Miller-Greiner from Wellman and her family; Cheryl Ann Powers and her husband from St. Paul, Minnesota; Karen Sue Simon and family from Evergreen, Colorado; Dennis Miller from Wellman and family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jay Miller (2002), and twelve brothers and sisters. A Mass of the Resurrection will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wellman at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 9th, with Fr. Rich Adam celebrating. Burial will be at the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m. and a Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m. A Memorial fund has been established for Trees Forever and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wellman.
