LaVanda Beattie

LaVanda "Vanie" Beattie, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, June 2, 2006, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Monday at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Monday evening. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Forest Home Cemetery with the Rev. Pat Youngquist officiating. Memorials have been established to the Mt. Pleasant Public Library. Born September 6, 1921, in Henry County, IA, she was the daughter of John and Rose Lampe Holtcamp. She attended country schools in the Mt. Pleasant area. On August 29, 1941, she married James Howard Beattie in Muskogee, OK. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2001. LaVanda worked at the Sheaffer Pen Company for thirteen years. She then went to work for the Henry County Health Center in the Obstetrics Department for twenty-four years. LaVanda also assisted her husband James at the Western Auto Store. LaVanda enjoyed gardening and working out on the family farm. Along with her husband, she attended countless high school sporting events. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States and taking bus trips. Mrs. Beattie was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and was of the Christian faith. Survivors include three nieces, Janet and her husband Lenny Faraci of Glenwood, IA, Carol Holtcamp of Winfield, IA, and Janet and her husband Jeff Schulte of Mililani, HI; three nephews, Richard McDonald of Champaign, IL, Ronald McDonald and his wife Mary of Cedar Falls, IA, and David McDonald of Littleton, CO; and several great nephews and great nieces. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Emma Mae and her husband Maurice McDonald of Morning Sun, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Irvin Holtcamp and Everett Holtcamp, and a nephew Ted McDonald.
