Laurene Carter

Wellman- Laurene Carter was born June 19, 1922 in Wood River, NE the daughter of Aaron and Manerva (Erb) Beckler. Laurene moved from Nebraska with her parents as a teenager to the Wellman area. On December 28, 1968 she was united in marriage to Wallace Carter Jr. in North English. They made their home in the North English community, until retiring and returning back to the Wellman area in 1998. She worked at West Side Grocery in Wellman for 13 years, Wellman Saving Bank for 13 years and English Valley Care Center for 13 years. Laurene was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, UMW, and the friendly circle. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and cooking. Laurene passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 94 years.
Laurene is survived by a son Dennis Beckler of Newton; two step children: Tom Carter of Newton and Nancy Davis of Kentucky. 4 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandson; and a brother Merlyn Beckler of Tipton. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1996, a daughter-in-law Phyllis Beckler, a step daughter Linda Rouhani and step son-in-law Mehdi Rouhani, five sisters: Verna Kuhns, Ella Schweitzer, Marie Schweitzer, Margaret Hazelton, and Erma Hartzler, a brother Cleo Beckler.
Celebration Of Life Service will be 1:30 PM Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman. Rev. Moody Colorado will officiate. Burial is in the Yankee Point Cemetery rural North English. Visitation will be Friday, November 18, 2016 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and Goodwin Senior Dinning Center.
