Laura "Sara" Miller, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rich Pippert officiating. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. A general memorial has been established. The Powell Funeral Home of Wellman is in charge of the funeral arrangements. The daughter of Henry and Maggie (Ernst) Kuhns, Laura was born July 8, 1924 in Thurman, CO. When she was eight years old, the family moved to the Wellman area. She was a graduate of Wellman High School. On December 31, 1944, Laura married Alvin Miller in Wellman. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1999. The Millers lived in Wellman, Washington, Webster City and Mt. Pleasant. Laura was a homemaker and for many years babysat in her home. She enjoyed playing cards and games, gardening, camping, flowers, crocheting, cross stitch, Hardanger, making scrubbers and doilies, and watching Wheel of Fortune. Laura was also willing to go along for a ride anywhere, especially if there was new scenery. Laura is survived by two daughters, Linda Miller and Susan Miller of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two sons, Larry (Joanie) Miller of Dubuque, IA, and Gary (Suzetta) Miller of Hawkeye, IA; one granddaughter, Kim (Jon) Kopplin and one step-grandson, Talon Haskins; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alexander Kopplin. She was preceded in death by her husband; both parents; her step-mother Susie Kuhns; five brothers, Glen, John, Ervin, Lawrence "Zip" and Delmar Kuhns; and four sisters, Velma Hoffman, Mary Hoffman, Stella Kuhns and Lucille Kempf.
