Larry Frank Sheetz of Wapello, passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a long illness. He will be missed. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 from 1-3:00 at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 at Powell's, with the Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Larry's cremains will be scattered at a later time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Larry was born to Andy and Florence (Frank) Sheetz on April 18, 1937 in Washington County, IA, one of ten children. He graduated from Keota High School in 1955. He married Ann Shelman in 1958; they were married for 20 years and had three children, Steve, Mark, and Jeff. Larry worked as a foreman at River Products quarries in Keota and the surrounding area for 26 years, retiring in 1993. Survivors include Larry's sons Steve Sheetz, and Mark "Trail" Sheetz, both of Keota, and Jeff (Gayle) Sheetz of Coralville; sisters Marge Davison of Wayland, Naomi Wade of Marion, and Pauline (Bill) Cady of Keota; one brother Jim (Ginger) Sheetz of Keota; two sisters-in-law Liz Sheetz of Lanexa, VA, and Carole Sheetz of Grand Junction, CO; many nieces and nephews; a good friend and neighbor Sharon Kording of Wapello; and his faithful dog Sammy. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Dick Sheetz, Roger (Estie) Sheetz, Ray (Celia) Sheetz, and Paul Sheetz; sister Imogene Sparby; brothers-in-law Everett Davison and Fred Wade; one nephew Brett Sparby and good friend Vi Kirkbride.
