Larry Wayne McCallister

North English-Larry Wayne McCallister was born August 5, 1941, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of C. Wayne and Eleanora (Schlesselman) McCallister. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Williamsburg, where he was baptized on August 31, 1941 and confirmed on May 29, 1955. He attended Pilot Grove country school, Millersburg school  and graduated from English Valley High School in 1959.  Larry dedicated nearly ten years serving in the  United States Army, Reserves, and National Guard.  Larry was united in marriage to Betty Lou Fruendt on June 20, 1964 at St. John Lutheran Church, in rural Victor, Iowa. Larry was a farmer, worked at the Middle America gas station, Kinze Manufacturing, NCS Pearson and the Riverside Casino. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Williamsburg and the Iowa County Historical and Genealogy Society. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, being outside picking berries, gardening, canning, mushroom hunting, fishing, small engine repairs, attending the Iowa State Fair and Old Threshers.  Larry was especially proud of all the accomplishments of his grandchildren. Larry died Sunday, May 12, 2024, at his home, at the age of 82 years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou; three daughters, Annette (Mark) Shannahan, of Parnell, Shari (Jeff) Bruck, of Denison, and Bonnie (David) Schlak, of Marengo; 9 grandchildren, Chris Spicer, Kailey, Leah and Megan Shannahan, Madison, Katelyn and Jacob Bruck, Kyle and Grace Schlak and his sister, Judy (Jim) Tinnes, of Webster. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary McCallister.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 pm at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A general memorial fund has been established.
