Keota-Larry James (Jim) Dickinson was born February 27, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Dorothy (Clark) Dickinson. He graduated from Keota High School in 1960 and Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN with a Draftsman degree. Jim was united in marriage to Karen Ann James on February 21, 1963 in Winthrop, Iowa. Jim owned and operated Dicks Electric for a number of years in Keota before going to work for the City of Keota. He later became the Director of Public Works in Sigourney until retiring when he stayed active working for SADC and in the summer owned and operated Campers Corner at Lake Darling. Jim enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and friends and was an avid Packer, Cubs and Hawkeye fan. He truly enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sports and other activities. He was the former president of the Friends of Lake Darling, the Jaycees, Keota Community Club. He volunteered for the Keota Fire Department and was a State Fire Instructor for a number of years. Jim died Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington at the age of 75 years.
He is survived by his wife Karen; three children: Tracy Dickinson of Mt. Pleasant, Terry (Kim) Dickinson of Elkhart Lake, WI and Holly (Jordon) Severin of Jesup; five grandchildren: Deidre, Lexi, Taylor, Jake and Molly and two great-grandsons: Rowan and Reid. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Wayne Dickinson.
Celebration of Life Gathering will be Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Lake Darling Lodge, at Lake Darling State Park, 111 Lake Darling Road near Brighton from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be a graveside service on Monday at 5:00 pm at the Keota Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Friends of Lake Darling or the Keota Fire Department.
