Marengo

Marengo-Larry L. Hall, age 83, of Marengo, died unexpectedly Monday, January 27, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic in Iowa City.

Larry was born September 17, 1941, the son of Lloyd and Lorna (Hicks) Hall. Larry grew up on a farm west of Guernsey. He graduated from Guernsey High School in 1959. Larry was united in marriage to Shirlee Darland on July 20, 1963 in Montezuma. They were blessed with two children, Jay and Chantal. Together they lived in Brooklyn until 1972 and then moved to Marengo, where they currently resided. Larry worked at Amana Refrigeration for 38 years and as a consultant for Mills Products, who supplies handles to Amana. After retiring he bowled on the Senior PBA Tour for approximately 3 years. Larry loved buckskinning; he was a very talented artist in his own right, making and gifting his creations to people, and attending rendezvous events. He had a collection of around 3,500 beer cans and had just recently sold them to another collector.

Larry is survived by his wife Shirlee of 61 years; son Jay (Rhonda) Hall; five grandchildren, Bridgette (C.J.) Ford, Abby (Adam) Disterhoft, Awnika (Conner) Knapp, Cael (Emilee Miller) Hall and Callie Hall; two great granddaughters, Adley Disterhoft and Willow Knapp and another great grandchild expected in March; and his sister Linda (Larry) Hansen. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Chantal Jacoby, granddaughter Nicole Jacoby, sister-in-law Suzanne Henry and nephew Sean Darland.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. Powell Funeral Home & Crematory in Williamsburg is caring for Larry and his family. Memorials may be directed to Safe Haven of Iowa County in his honor of his love of all animals. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com
