Lawrence M. "Larry" Cammack, 66, of East Peoria, IL, formerly of Salem, IA, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at the Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Friday, January 27th at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, Mt. Pleasant, IA, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. that evening. Inurnment with military rites provided by the Henry County Honor Guard, Dean King, Commander, will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 28th at the Salem South Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Friends Church in Salem, IA with Pastor Scott Morin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lewelling Quaker Museum. Born July 2, 1945, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Larry was the son of Dale and Marcia Emeline (Hannah) Cammack. Larry spent his formative years in Salem, IA, and was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He attended Iowa State University and earned a two year degree in mechanical technology. During the Viet Nam era, he served in the United States Navy from September 12, 1969 until September 1973, and was stationed in Mountain View, CA. On September 2, 1967, he was united in marriage to Audrey A. Turner in Menlo, IA. The Cammacks lived in Des Moines, Millington, TN, San Jose, CA, Cedar Falls, IA and Lombard, IL. The couple moved to Peoria, IL in 1987. Mr. Cammack was employed as a turbine engineer at General Electric. He retired in August 2005 after 38 years of service. Larry was a member of the Salem Methodist Church. He had a great love of woodworking and making items from logs sawn on his own property. Larry had an avid interest in history and researching genealogy. Larry is survived by his wife Audrey of East Peoria, IL; one son, Thomas (Chris) Cammack of Peoria Heights, IL; one daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Cammack James of Pekin, IL; his mother, Marcia Cammack of Mt. Pleasant, IA; five grandchildren, Oakley Schulze, Celena Hoffstatter, Nathan James, Naomi James and Jared James; two sisters, Nancy (Myron) Koets and Penny Cammack all of Pipestone, MN; and one brother, Mark (Audrey) Cammack of Danville, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Cammack on November 25, 2011.
