WELLMAN - LaFern Salome Yoder was born September 19, 1916 in rural Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Emery and Alice (Bender) Brenneman. She attended the Franklin rural school. On December 11, 1938 she was united in marriage to Ray M. Yoder at the West Union Mennonite Church. They farmed north of Wellman for many years before moving into Wellman in 1976. She was an active member of the West Union Mennonite Church. LaFern died on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a long illness at the age of 91 years. LaFern is survived by 4 daughters- Myrna Kaufman and husband John of Goshen, Indiana; Charlene Rhodes and husband Dale of Riverside; Katherine Leichty and husband Kenneth of Wellman; Rosalyn Miller and husband Dennis of Wellman; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; a sister - Nina Miller of Wellman; a brother - Orval Brenneman and wife Norma of Wellman; and a sister-in-law Ruth Brenneman of Wellman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son Arlis; a great granddaughter Willa Esperanza Siemens Rhodes; a brother Willard Brenneman; and a brother-in-law Paul L. Miller. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the West Union Mennonite Church in rural Parnell. Pastors David Boshart and Martha Yoder will officiate. Burial will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Monday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the West Union Mennonite Church and Iowa City Hospice.
