SIGOURNEY-LaVerne Ruth Herrick, age 95, of Sigourney, died Friday, March 28, 2025, at Windmill Manor in Iowa City.

LaVerne was born October 18, 1929, in Donnelly, Idaho, the daughter of Ervie and Edna (Martin) Hermanstorfer. She attended Sigourney schools through the 8th grade and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1947. She married Norvin “Doc” Dawson in March of 1948 at the Christian Church in Oskaloosa. They had two sons and were later divorced. She then married Bill Herrick in October of 1963. They had one son and were later divorced. LaVerne worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Keokuk County Health Center and a Teacher’s Aide at Pekin schools for seven years. She was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and enjoyed flowers and gardening and being with her family.

Survivors include two sons: Donald Dawson of Iowa City and Kelly Herrick of Sigourney; three grandchildren: Shawn (Angela) Dawson of Oskaloosa, Suzan (Jason) Hauser of Florida and Leah (Nick) Baker of Davenport; four great grandchildren: Jack and Emma Dawson, Knox and Jett Baker and a sister: Sonna (Gailen) Jennings of Sigourney. She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Ronald Dawson and two sisters: Arlene Pfannebecker and Dorothy Mae Van Haaften.

Per her wishes, her body will be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
