Williamsburg-L. Sylvan Collingwood, son of Roy and Emily (Faas) Collingwood, was born December 5, 1914, in Troy Township, Iowa County, Iowa. He attended rural school. Sylvan was united in marriage to Gladys Myers on August 12, 1937, in Marengo, Iowa. He farmed all his life South-East of Williamsburg. Sylvan was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing hunting and being outdoors. Sylvan died Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. He lived 92 years. He is survived by two sons: Jerry (Jackie) Collingwood of Bella Vista, AR and Eldon (Sue) Collingwood of Swisher; a daughter: Shirley (Allan) Schmidt of Carroll; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; three sisters: Velma Hofmaster of Cedar Rapids, Doris Von Ahsen of Williamsburg and Marva Wilson of Altoona; two brothers: Milford Collingwood of Williamsburg and Hawley Collingwood of Belle Plaine; and a sister-in-law: Jeanette Collingwood of Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1992; two sisters Gladys Kempfert and Dorothy Rusbult; and a brother Gerald Collingwood. Celebration of Life Services will be on 10:00 am, Saturday July 28, 2007 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, with Pastor Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 - 8:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
